Mitford Museum of Northumberland Mining
Isgandar Hajiyev
Mitford Museum of Northumberland Mining is based on the abstraction of the Mitford Castle ruins and fragmenting their “spread” or “declaration” in the landscape into the proposal. The underlying motif of the fragments is to travel and fetch the contextual layers of history of Northumberland such as mid-war mining culture, Bevin boys, and Northumberland bagpipes. After the program has been fragmented into four parts; Central Building, Performance Building, Mining Exhibition and Cafe, they are connected with carved routes bordered with gabion walls, inviting the community to experience the enlivened atmosphere of the mining shafts.
